Davao and Valencia to Kibalabag
Malaybalay City is about four hours from Davao City by bus and under an hour from Valencia City. Both arrive at the same last hour of mountain road.
From Davao City
About four hours by bus up the Davao to Cagayan de Oro highway, which runs through Malaybalay every couple of hours. It is a long enough day that most guests come up the afternoon before rather than trying to do the drive and the climb in one go.
Road times are approximate. Treat the hour from Malaybalay up to us as a separate leg at the end of it, not as part of the highway run.
From Valencia City
Valencia City is under an hour from Malaybalay, which makes this the shortest approach of the three and the easiest one to do in a morning. Lake Apo is at Valencia, so a stop there on the way up or the way back costs almost nothing in extra driving.
We have not measured the drive to Lake Apo from our own gate, so plan it from town rather than from us.
Driving yourself
Drive west out of Malaybalay City towards Barangay Kibalabag and keep climbing. Fill up in town: there is no fuel past the last barangay. The sealed road gives way to gravel and packed earth on the upper stretches and there is a river crossing near the end, so call us the morning you travel and we will tell you what the crossing looks like that day.
The shuttle at ₱3,000 round trip and habal-habal at ₱300 for two passengers are both there if the road is more than you want to take on. What the road is like in each season is set out in camping in Bukidnon.
