Things to do around Malaybalay
Where to go in Bukidnon once you are up here: the monastery, the festival grounds, the spring, the crater lake and the range whose ridge line you can see from the site.
In the city
The Monastery of the Transfiguration is the one everybody comes for — a pyramid chapel, and coffee the monks roast themselves. The Kaamulan Grounds are where the province gathers for the Kaamulan Festival, and the Bukidnon Provincial Tree Park gives you pine and a view back over the city.
All three are in Malaybalay City, which you pass through on the way up whichever direction you come from.
Further out
Nasuli Spring at Bangcud is cold, clear water for swimming. Lake Apo at Valencia City is a crater lake and an easy half day with a kayak on it. Mount Kitanglad Range Natural Park is a protected ASEAN Heritage Park, and its ridge line is the one on your horizon from up here. North at Manolo Fortich, Dahilayan Adventure Park is a full day of ziplines and the alpine coaster.
We have not measured the drive to any of them from our gate, so plan them from town rather than from us, and treat the climb up to us as an hour at either end of the day.
When to come
December through April are the drier months and the easiest driving. The wet season runs from roughly mid-May to late November, June being the wettest, and the last stretch of road is the part that rain changes.
February and March bring the Kaamulan Festival down in Malaybalay, so the city is busy then and the rooms in it go early. Cloud moving through the site happens most mornings of the year either way. If you are working out how to get here, start with Cagayan de Oro to the ridge.
